International Adoption

When choosing to adopt a child, some prospective parents make the decision to partake in an international adoption. That is, they choose to adopt a child from a country other than their own. This process can be long and full of bureaucratic red tape, especially since it is a matter conducted entirely between the potential adoptive parents and a foreign court, which acts on behalf of the foreign government. The United States government cannot intervene on the parents' behalf. There a few reasons and some benefits to this option, however.

Aside from the usual reasons for which one would choose to adopt, there are a couple of reasons why international adoption specifically may be a preference. One reason can be benevolence. The major countries from which children are adopted into the United States all have glaring social problems which drive the international adoption process. China, for example, has strict population control laws which often force Chinese parents to give their children (especially girls) up for adoption. Russia suffers from poverty to such an extent that raising a child is often not feasible. Americans who adopt children from these environments and others like them may decide that they wish to rescue a child from such circumstances and bring him or her into the home.

A second-- and perhaps more substantial-- reason for international adoption is the decline in availability of children for adoption in the United States. The number of adoptions which were conducted transnationally has more than tripled in the last 15 years, due largely to a decrease in potential adoptees available domestically.

The potential benefits to the adopted child are fairly obvious. She is raised in a nurturing home by people who wanted the child so badly that they went to great lengths and expense to adopt her. In nearly all cases, the child moves up in socioeconomic class after being adopted. The child may also experience educational opportunities which may not have otherwise been available. While these benefits may be obvious, there are more complex and perhaps more obscure impacts on the societies and cultures involved at both ends of the adoption process.

For those interested in international adoption, there are a number of resources available. First of all, it is advisable to first learn about domestic open adoption and explore domestic options before looking abroad. There can be certain risks associated with international adoption. That said, there are many children available in more than fifty countries, all of whom who are legally free for adoption and are in need of caring homes.

One good place to start on the journey toward adopting a child from abroad is the website Adoption.com. The site has a great number of resources to answer all questions adoption. They have a section of the site devoted solely to international adoption (http://international.adoption.com). The United States State Department also has some information about intercountry adoption available online (http://travel.state.gov/family/adoption/adoption_485.html). This page clarifies the role that the U.S. government may be able to play in the adoption process, as well as providing phone numbers to call for more information on international adoption.

A final word: international adoption is a long process full of bureaucratic hurdles. It can be costly and may require prospective parents to reside in the country of the child's origin for a period of time before the process is complete. Like all things that require effort, however, people who endure the process ultimately find it to be worthwhile.

Accepting the Diagnosis of Autism

Receiving a diagnosis of Autism can seem overwhelming. You may be left with a lot of unanswered questions about the diagnosis. You might be thinking the diagnosis is wrong. This cannot be happening to your child. There are different feelings and emotions you will experience when dealing with a diagnosis of Autism. Here are some of the ways you might be feeling, and ways to come to terms with the diagnosis.

Denial

Denial is a common feeling when dealing with any medical problem. Sometimes it is easier to deny that there is even a problem. Some parents do not want to consider that there could be something wrong with their child. So they pretend like there is nothing wrong. The doctor was wrong, their child is perfectly normal. Being in denial about the diagnosis will not help anything. The sooner that you accept that your child is Autistic the better both of you will be. The condition will not go away if you ignore it. Accepting the diagnosis and moving on will be a huge step for you as a parent to take. The quicker this is done the sooner you can start looking into treatment options.

Anger

Anger is one of the emotions you might feel when you get a diagnosis of Autism. You might be angry with yourself, or angry with God. Why is your child Autistic. You might be angry with other parents that have healthy children. This is a normal feeling to experience. Remember while you are feeling angry to think of all the great things about your child. Share your feelings with others. Keeping anger bottled up can be a bad thing.

Grief

Sometimes when a parent gets a diagnosis of Autism they go though a grieving period. They are sad that their child has something wrong with them. They may be feeling sad that the dreams they had for their child may have to change. They might be sad over the way the world will treat their child, and the hardships they will face. Grief is a normal emotion to go through. The key is to get through the grief, and on to the acceptance. Try not to look at the things that are wrong. There will have to be some adjustments made to your plans for your child's future. That is what life is all about , change. If you find yourself unable to move past the grieving stage you might need to talk to someone. It might help having a few therapy sessions to deal with the feelings you are experiencing.

Acceptance

Finally coming to terms with the diagnosis of Autism can take awhile. Some people are just glad to have an answer to what is wrong with their child. Others have a hard time accepting their child is different from other kids. Eventually you will accept that your child is different, and that is okay. Once you have accepted the diagnosis of Autism you can start to help your child. Do all the research you can on Autism. Think about how hard it is for your child. They need you to be behind them in their treatments one hundred percent. The first step to doing this is acceptance.

Effectiveness of Birth Control

Family planning is a necessity in our society today because of the fact that the earth's resources are becoming less and less every year and in a study it is estimated that there would be 12 million infant births in 2025 alone. From 8 million in 2019 every year there is an increase of 1.004 million births.

Looking into these statistics the effectiveness of birth control as it relates the number of infant births per year is still pretty high. The campaign of different sectors of government has become more and more aggressive in the past few years targeting larger urban areas in big cities. Even with the heightened awareness about the importance of family planning and birth control methods the effectiveness of the campaign still remains underwhelming in terms of results.

Some of the factors that may contribute to the lack of positive results of the campaign on birth control is the fact some people still are not aware of the different methods that are available to them. In the past it has been the problem for some government agencies to make people accept contraception because of the massive disagreement that Catholics showed saying that it is only God that can give and take people's lives.

Of course these people are talking about abortion which in fact is not a form of contraception nor is it a form of family planning or birth control. Abortion is in fact a crime in a lot of countries and most of the states of the US.

If people protests against birth control because they believe it is a form of abortion then that means they are under informed and that they are ignorant to the concept of Natural birth control. Because of the opposition that contraception received from moralists and religious orders, the concept of Natural birth control was introduced.

Though the confusion of the idea caused people not to believe in it at first, it has been regarded as more favorable by the anti-contraception groups. Contraception methods are what we call artificial birth control. These methods include condoms (both male and female), hormonal method, birth control pills, Intrauterine device, ligation, spermicide (chemical only), spermicide with sponge, injections (Depo-Provera) and Vasectomy.

These are just some of the most common methods that include the use of different devices or chemicals to prevent sperms and egg cells from meeting. Recently it was known that not only is birth control effective in planning the family but it also effective in preventing sexually transmitted diseases and other infection in people.

Because some of the devices used in birth control prevent contact of skin in the reproductive organs, the chances of catching the infection are minimized if not totally eliminated. So aside for the health department campaigning for married couples to plan their family for the future, young couples are also requested to use protection to prevent the spread of Sexually transmitted diseases and/or early pregnancy(that is also a big issue not only in the United States but all over the world).

The effectiveness of birth control methods greatly rely on the cooperation of people who are directly or indirectly affected by the issue. It may not be enough to just talk about it but more on acting upon it and getting the results that are badly needed by the country and the people of this planet.

Honeymoon Thrills with a Great Honeymoon idea

The honeymoon, they say, is the perfect time to enjoy the company of your loved one, bask in his/her love and relive the beauty of falling in love again - before the hassles of married life starts. After the wedding preparations, this is one of the truly memorable experiences of your wedding. Now, there's just the two of you, together, in some secluded, private place without any distractions, any interruptions - just love and love and love, and of course, more time for each other.

So, how and where do you plan to spend your honeymoon? While some can afford the luxurious hotels and resorts with all-inclusive packages, others may want to be more practical and settle for something on the average, within their means. Here are some ideas you and your partner might want to consider.

You had your first date in the beach. He proposed to you in a fancy restaurant. You've always wanted to go to Europe and see the Eiffel Tower, walk along the streets of London, and wine and dine at the fanciest Italian restaurants, or ride the Gondola. A honeymoon abroad is definitely something you might want to save up for. Explore the places you've always dreamed of seeing!

Sail away on a cruise. There's fresh sea air, the colorful ports, the wide array of food, and a cabin that fits your needs - what more can you ask for? And at night, there's party and revelry at the ship's deck. And just imagine the places you'll be able to see!

This may be your one and only chance to stay at a classy, five-star, top-of-the-line hotel. Then go for it! It always spells a bigger room, with all the amenities inside - a well-stocked mini bar, a Jacuzzi for some swimming, perfect view of the ocean from your terrace. This is luxury at its best.

You've always been curious about the Sin City and its attractions -the casinos, the poker games, the cabaret dancers, the clubs, and the lights. A few nights at Vegas with your loved one may loosen up some of those tired, old muscles and teach you to have more fun.

There's something about all-inclusive honeymoon packages and couples-only resorts. It's Privacy. If you want something wild, you might want to consider trying a nude beach where you can bare yourself and get that wonderful tan minus the bikini lines. From California to St. Martin to Cap d'Agde, there's some grain of truth in the saying that the best things in life can be done naked. No need to splurge on honeymoon clothes!

Escape to an island - no phones, no emails, no work, no noise, no distractions, just the two of you. Nurture your body, mind and spirit and savor each other's company.

Relive your first meeting. Instead of going away to some unknown place, you might want to stay on more familiar grounds and spend your honeymoon in the place you first met, or the place where you had your first date as a couple. Doesn't matter if you two met at the bus station - then spend the day taking a joyride in the bus as you reminisce and look back at that first meeting.

Stay close to home. A picnic in the park, or at the garden, in the backyard of your own home may be the perfect honeymoon destination. No need to splurge on a travel abroad, fine dining, hotel accommodations and other all-inclusive romantic packages.

In the end, what matters is the company, not the grandness of the place, not the accommodations, and definitely, not the cost.

Vital steps in preparation for an industrial emergency

First things first, the fact of the matter is that there are great benefits to be had when there is guidance and ample preparation in cases of an emergency.

Planning and preparation helps industries and corporation discover any hazardous problems or conditions that could be unrecognized and if not paid attention to could possibly aggravate a situation.

When there is preparation, deficiencies are immediately brought to light.

Some of these deficiencies could include resource-lack (e.g. lack of personnel that are adequately trained, lack of supplies, lack of equipment, to name a few). Knowing these details beforehand helps correct any lack in the soonest possible time.

It also prevents major losses and casualties as well as financial organizational collapse.

Another advantage of preparing for an industrial emergency is that it helps promote appropriate safety and awareness among the workers as well as present a company that is concerned with the welfare of all its staff.

The following are some of the needed steps designed to assist industrial plants as well as businesses in preparing for any type of emergency.

Establish a team

As much as possible, set-up a good planning team. A leader as well as a staff must be chosen as based on their appropriate capabilities and skills.

Particular tasks should also be assigned to teams or individuals.

Analyze hazards and capabilities

It is also important to assess the preparations the industrial plant or the organization currently has against risks such as power failure, damage in structures, among others.

In an emergency such as flooding, contacting the manager of the local floodplain as well as other flood officials helps organization and industries learn the risks involved.

Using building materials that are flood-resistant, erecting a physical barrier as well as anchoring structures and tanks is one of the ways to prepare in advance for flood emergencies.

Meanwhile, preparing against high winds is by reinforcing the roof as well as the side panels. Covering windows is also important, covering the doors and removing any objects that are loose from the industrial plant's site is a must.

Have a backup

As much as possible, have a backup emergency power such as a battery storage, power and heat system combined. It is also vital that contact utility info be obtained in case of a power outage.

The plan should be developed

It is important that there is a plan developed during, before as well as after a particular emergency. Protocols should be established for the welfare of the employees, especially their safety and similarly the readiness of the site.

Emergency power should also be updated as well as the options for power supply. Communication emergency systems must also be established.

Responsibilities for each staff with regards to the recovery, shutdown and restart procedure should be outlined.

An evacuation plan should also be developed including employee support. Procedures on shutting down the utility and the safe processing of operations is a necessity.

Methods in protecting records, inventory and materials must also be developed.

Plan implementation

Staying in touch with the operations emergency center on your own state is important.

In this stage, the appropriate preparation, shutdown, emergency backup and evacuation should be started.

All in all, the final stage is the recovery process and the assessment of the damages brought by the emergency as well as in prioritizing needed repairs. Hopefully, the procedures above helps in the adequate preparation of industries and organization.

Mood Swings in Children

Mood swings are not especially common in children but they do occur. Depending on the cause, mood swings in children may give you a reason to worry. In any case, parents should seek professional help as well as doing what they can to reduce its frequency.

Possible Causes for Mood Swings in Children
Know why your child is suffering from mood swings and you'll be in a better position to prevent them.

The Right Diet
Mood swings in children have various causes but in many cases, you can put the blame on something as simple as the wrong diet. Since children are still in the process of growing up, they need a lot of nutrition and energy. The wrong foods could make their bodies react negatively and since children don't have yet the knowledge and maturity to understand the cause of these changes, their lack of comprehension could make them more prone to experiencing mood swings.

For the right diet, try serving your kids with a power breakfast abundant in healthy carbohydrates and lots of fiber. Train them to eat lots of greens and fruits, too.

Hereditary Factors
Children look like you because you're his parent and he's inherited his looks from you. Physical characteristics, however, are not the only ones they can inherit from you. If your family has a history of mood disorders like bipolar depression or anxiety, your child may have inherited it, too.

Poor Sleeping Habits
What time does your child go to bed? What time does he wake up? Does he get enough sleep in any case? Is he sleeping in an appropriate environment? Children need quality sleep much more than adults and when he doesn't get the required hours of sleep each night, he'll become more irritable and yes, more prone to mood swings as well.

Lack of Exercise
Physical health will always affect other aspects of your health - psychological, emotional, and mental. Lack of exercise will weaken your child's body and consequently, it could have a negative impact on your child's psychological, emotional, and mental health. All these could result into rapid and frequent mood swings.

Tips for Preventing Mood Swings in Children
Upon determining the cause of your child's mood swings, ask for professional help to determine the ideal treatment in his situation. Be especially understanding of your child's condition, too; if your child feels happy and secure, he'll be less prone to have mood swings.

Know His Interests and Passions
They may be young, but this doesn't mean they don't have an inkling of what they'd really love to do in life. You can help them determine what their interests and passions are by introducing them to new and different hobbies.

If they're not interested in sports then perhaps your children are more interested in music or the various styles of art? Encourage your child to indulge in his passion. When your child's having fun, he won't have enough time to even think of mood swings.

Know Why He's Unhappy
Of course, there could be something that you don't know and is causing your child's mood swings. The reason might not even be medical in nature. Talk to your child. Encourage him to confide in you and assure him of your understanding. If necessary, let him know that you'll keep everything he says confidential. What's important is that he's secure in loving and trusting you.

Promise your child that you'll help him with his problem and he won't have any reason to experience mood swings.

Understanding the Jekyll Hyde Male Menopause Syndrome

Andropause is a condition brought about by low levels of testosterone throughout the man's body. It normally occurs in men aged 40 years old and above where they experience symptoms similar to women's menopause. However, changes in men are gradual, characterized by fatigue, changes in moods and attitudes, and loss of physical agility, energy, and sex drive. Studies show that men may even acquire the Jekyll Hyde Syndrome or Irritable Male Syndrome (IMS) which can later on affect the people around him.

A lot of people are familiar with the book written by Robert Louis Stevenson entitled Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It speaks about human psyche dealing with the mind of a male in particular. Dr. Henry Jekyll has a life-long pursuit of separating man's two natures to obtain the essence between evil and good.

Dr. Jekyll superiors and friends refused to help him. However, he succeeded in doing his experiments using his formula, but the results were shocking. Dr. Jekyll's evil nature, Edward Hyde, surfaces with a separate identity. Hyde starts to murder those people who refuse to support Dr. Jekyll's cause. From then on, Dr. Jekyll keeps on fighting to control his evil half.

It is really shocking that this transformation could occur with men undergoing andropause. Their attitudes can suddenly change from being once a loving and sensitive person to becoming mean and uncaring. Some wife does complain to their husbands that they completely changed from being Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde.

There are pointers to understand in the manifestation of this syndrome. Mostly, men who experience IMS can really change apparently overnight. He could appear so peaceful, loving, and contented but suddenly he freaks out as agitated, mean, and discontented. Other factor which triggers the condition involves a crisis of a relative or close friend. It could also be a difficulty in achieving his real identity since he has different roles such as being a father, a son, a husband, or a friend. This leads to confusion and fear thinking that he has to destroy his old version to move into something new.

IMS has affected a lot of men. It was mentioned earlier that plummeting testosterone levels can cause a man to become withdrawn and irritable which is considered an internal cause. However, external causes also trigger IMS in men. It can include physical injury or illness, or a relationship or job loss. So he thinks that his problems are caused by another person thus complaining more about it. Then he justifies it with anger to release the blame viewing the world via distorted lenses.

But not all men acquired IMS. There are four factors that should come together to develop IMS. It is determined by changes in hormones, brain chemistry, loss of identity, and stress levels. You just can't easily rate men who are irritable and angry with IMS. They should take the tests to be sure that they have IMS since being irritable and angry are normal.

Men can seek counseling to treat IMS so that they could prevent themselves from becoming Mr. Hyde of course. Men having low levels of testosterone can have testosterone restoration. Right diet and exercise is also significant. Exercising can increase testosterone levels. But keep in mind that low-carb diets are not helpful. Low carbohydrates can lower serotonin levels making men irritable. Remember, understanding IMS and seeking proper help is worth all the effort.

Birth Control Options

Family planning is a must in today's modern society. People are slowly becoming more and more aware of the implications both good and bad of planning the family. Most importantly people are becoming more and more aware of the different options that they have for planning their family. Different kinds of birth control options are now widely accepted as normal and part of everyday life.

Family planning has made enormous waves when it comes to controversy, different anti-family planning groups call it artificial control of what God has given and since most family planning methods involve products that have been manufactured by man and their companies people say that it is also like playing God since we have control over the number of members we want in our family.

Birth control options have been subject to a lot of debate and argument in the past and in the present, but even with all the opposition it gets from different sectors it still remains as the number one option of people who want to take care of how their family. What are the advantages of having birth control options?

There are a lot of different pros and cons to it but to have a good idea of some of the things that we can benefit from birth control let's go ahead and take a look into birth control a little more.

Birth control also helps prevent STD's or sexually transmitted diseases. Yes it's true, most birth control options if not some of it can help prevent Sexually transmitted diseases. We all know that STD's infect people through transferring the infection during sexual activities. Since the main function of birth control devices is to prevent contact between two different cells, the damage and the scope of the damage can be minimized in terms of getting the infection. One of the most reliable if not most used form of contraception that helps prevent transmission of STD is the condom.

It is a type of rolled up barrier protection.

Condoms can either be male or female types. Most commonly used are the male type condoms. There are a lot of it available at check out counters in various stores, it is easy to use and requires no expert tip or help whatsoever, to use it simply roll it out from the tip of the penis to the base. Make sure that you pinch the air out once it has made contact with the base of your penis.

The condom is one of the most effective and simple ways that we can use to first prevent Sexually transmitted diseases and second avoid unplanned and unscheduled pregnancies.

Because of it's simplicity and effectivity of the condom later on the female condom would be invented. The principle of the female condom is the same with the male condom, and basically has the same effectivity for birth control and protection. The only major difference if the relative difference in sizes.

For those who do not like artificial forms birth control, there are alternatives. One of the alternatives of artificial contraception would be natural family planning or birth control. Natural methods involve a lot of effort and hard work because of the nature of the many methods used for it.

Birth control options like these help us in planning ahead. We need to be a better country for the future generations.

Speech Therapy: An Overview

One of the not so noticed areas of rehabilitation medicine is Speech Therapy. In fact, a lot of people may not even know that something like this existed. It may be the case that this is your first time to encounter the field or you may have heard it somewhere, but don't fully understand what the practice is all about.

The sad truth about Speech Therapy is that you may not encounter it unless the situation calls for it. However, getting to know what the practice is can be very beneficial information.

What Is Speech Therapy?

As the name suggests, speech therapy deals with speech problems that an individual may encounter. However, the field of Speech Pathology doesn't only tackle speech, but also language and other communication problems that people may already have due to birth, or people acquired due to accidents or other misfortunes.

Speech therapy is basically a treatment that people of all ages can undergo through, to fix their speech. Although speech therapy alone would focus on fixing speech related problems like treating one's vocal pitch, volume, tone, rhythm and articulation.

Goals Of Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy aims for an individual to develop or get back effective communication skills at its optimal level. Recovery mainly depends on the case and severity of your problem, especially if your speech problem is acquired, meaning you had normal speech skills before then you had an accident or abrupt incident that caused your current speech problem; thus, you may or may not get back your old level of speech function.

Speech Problems

Speech problems are mainly categorized into three namely: Articulation Disorders, Resonance or Voice Disorders and Fluency Disorders. Each disorder deals with a different pathology and uses different techniques for therapy.

Articulation Disorders

Articulation Disorders are basically problems with physical features used for articulation. These features include lips, tongue, teeth, hard and soft palate, jaws and inner cheeks. If you have an Articulation Disorder, then you may have a problem producing words or syllables correctly to the point that people you communicate to can't understand what you are saying.

Resonance or Voice Disorders

Resonance, more popularly known as, Voice Disorders mainly deal with problems regarding phonation or the production of the raw sound itself. Most probably, you have a Voice Disorder when the sound that your larynx or voice box produces comes out to be muffled, nasal, intermittent, weak, too loud or any other characteristic not pertaining to normal.

Fluency Disorders

Fluency Disorders are speech problems with regard to the fluency of your speech. There are some cases that you talk too fast, in which people can't understand you, thus, you have a Fluency Disorder of Cluttering. The most common Fluency Disorder however, is Stuttering, which is a disorder of fluency where your speech is constantly interrupted by blocks, fillers, stoppages, repetitions or sound prolongations.

Who Gives Speech Therapy?

A highly trained professional, called a SLP or a Speech and Language Pathologist, gives Speech Therapy. Speech and Language Pathologists are informally more popularly known as Speech Therapists. They are professionals who have education and training with human communication development and disorders.

Speech and Language pathologists assess, diagnose and treat people with speech, communication and language disorders. However, they are not doctors, but are considered to be specialists on the field of medical rehabilitation.

Small Dog Adoptions

Adopting a small dog can be done through several different avenues. Shelters are a good source for finding small dogs to adopt, both pure bread and mixed breads alike. The process is rather simple and generally requires an adoption fee and sometimes a pet owner check. This helps them to know what kind of pet owner you have been in the past. It is always a good idea to spend time with the dog before you adopt it. If you have children you should bring them along for the first orientation.

Some small dog breads have bread specific medical conditions. For instance Daushounds of regular or miniature variety are more prone to back and hip problems. Some simple bread research will reveal most of these medical issues.

Another avenue for small dog adoption would be rescues. Some of the more popular breads such as, bichon frise, Papillion, miniature pincher, dashound, Yorkshire, pug, Boston terrier ect.. Have bread specific rescues. Other rescues are more general and have mixed breads as well. If after you have finished your research, you found that particular bread fits you better, this avenue would probably work best for you.

Some small dog breads should not be adopted if there are small children in the home. Breads such as pugs and miniature boxers are just a couple. The smaller breads are too easy for a small child to hurt. This can happen by falling on them or stepping on them. Also some small dog breads are more likely to nip and bite. Small dogs should be adopted into a home where there are older people or a family with older children.

Small dogs are rambunctious and require attention. They need room to run. Small dogs tend to be more hyper than larger dogs. These are things that you should consider when wanting to adopt a small dog. Other things to consider when wanting to adopt a small dog are time, money, and love. Whenever you adopt a dog large or small you should make sure that you have time to take care of it. You also need to make sure that you have the money to deal with any medical issues and mandatory maintenance of the dog. Then of course there is love all animals need love to survive and grow. Small dogs make good pets for apartment dwellers and anyone who likes to have a warm lap. Also it is good to remember that in most cases it is easier to control a ten pound dog than it is a do twice that size.

You should weigh your options and look at the pros and cons of small dog adoption. Take in our surrounding and ask yourself if this is what's right for you. Check with your landlord to see if there are any pet policies, and maybe talk to someone you know that has a small dog or has adopted a small dog. Make sure that the decision you make is the right one for you and your situation.

Choosing Home Window Security Bars

Home security window bars come in three styles: fixed, hinged and removable. Choosing the right style is a matter of use. Saw-resistance and tamper resistant hardware are additional considerations.

Fixed home window security bars do not open. They are available in a wide variety of sizes and are usually the most economical style. Home and business owners can choose from basic designs, decorative styles or even elaborate luxury styles.

Hinged or swing away home window security bars swing open for repair and cleaning. They can be padlock secured and are available in a variety of sizes. Mr. Goodbar tm Keyless Quick Release Locking System is appropriate for secondary escape routes.

Home or business owners who need to comply with local fire and building codes for secondary escapes can use these bars.
Removable window bars lock on both sides, allowing easy removal. They're good for vacation cabins, storefronts or anywhere periodical protection is required. They are available in a variety of sizes.

Home window security bars are available for safety and for security. The purpose of the bars helps determine the appropriate style.

Child safety and security window bars and guards are available in standard sizes to fit most window openings. They provide quick installation, require no special ordering or fitting, and feature safety releases for quick removal.
Parents, grandparents, and anyone concerned with preventing small children or pets from falling out windows can find peace of mind in the installation of these home window security bars.

The first step in choosing home window security bars is to determining use. Will the bars be used for safety purposes (to keep children and pets from exiting windows) or is security the aim (deter and prevent burglary or home intrusion)?
Once purpose is determined, window style is an important consideration when seeking to add home window security bars. Typical window styles include double-hung, single-hung, casement and sliding. Home owners will need this information when preparing to purchase or order bars.

After confirming window style, window size is required. The measurement required for home window security bars is the dimensions of the window opening. The window opening is the space inside the window frame.

Be sure to note how many windows will require bars and the correct window opening size for each.

Home window security bars are available from many stores and companies. They're also available online via stores and auction sites. Home or business owners who are going to install the bars themselves can purchase materials from any reputable provider.

Not all home window security bars are created equal. Bars should be constructed of saw-resistant, sturdy materials. A bar that can easily be bent, broken, sawed or removed is not providing adequate safety.

Home and business owners who prefer to pay a home security window bar company to fit and install all windows will need to choose a reputable company. The company shouldn't mind providing references or even the names and phone numbers of satisfied customers.

Home window security bars give home and business owners an added layer of protection.

Secrets of a Painless Kitchen Remodel

You've had it. Your kitchen floor is old and stained, your cupboards are so awkward its impossible to keep them organized, your appliances on their last legs. You've wanted to remodel your kitchen for years, but you fear you have neither the money nor the time to embark on a lengthy, expensive remodel.

Never fear. Your kitchen remodel does not have to be a grueling experience. Many homeowners decide to do the work of a remodel themselves, opting to finish the work on evenings or weekends. If you have a high tolerance for disruption and want to get the most bang for your buck, this may be the best option for your kitchen remodel. However, it is probably not going to be painless. Another thing to consider is to hire out all the individual contractors for your remodel yourself. For instance, you do the legwork and find a tile layer, you decide who you want to install your sink and garbage disposal and hook up the dishwasher. This may save you some money, but certainly will not save you any time. You'll spend hours asking friends and family who they used for their kitchen remodel, and you'll want to also be sure to check references and view samples of their work for each one. When you consider how many different people it takes to complete a remodel-plumber, tile-layer, floor specialist, cabinet installer-to name only a few, you can see that this is a time-consuming occupation. Many people enjoy this process, but others may be more comfortable with having one professional to oversee the entire process of the kitchen remodel.

If you are pressed for time, and want a relatively painless kitchen remodel, you would be well advised to hire a professional contractor. This is perhaps the number one secret to a painless kitchen remodel. A reputable kitchen remodel contractor can save you hours of time in finding and overseeing individual contractors, guide you in design and configuration choices, and be your hand-holder throughout the entire process. And let's face it, while there are ways to make your kitchen remodel as painless as possible, it's still going to be a disruption of your home. Having a professional at your side can ease a lot of the disruption.

How to find a kitchen remodel contractor? Word of mouth is always a good starting point. Ask friends and family for recommendations. Get online and check websites. Browse your local yellow pages. Many large home improvement stores offer contracting services, as do smaller, local companies. Talk to several; have them visit your kitchen so that you can discuss the specifics of your remodel onsite. A remodel contractor will give you ideas and present options you might not have thought about.

Your next step is to get bids from all the remodel contractors you've talked to. Then compare those bids, but there are considerations beyond just price. Did you feel the contractor understood the goals of your remodel? Are your design ideas similar? Do you feel comfortable personally with the contractor? You'll be spending a lot of time together over the course of the remodel, so this is important.

Once you've chosen the contractor, he can give you tips on how to schedule and what to expect over the course of the remodel. He'll be available to answer questions and troubleshoot. Your remodel will be done before you know it-and you'll be basking in the beauty of your new kitchen.

Pregnancy and Nutrition

You are besides yourself with joy as you see that your pregnancy test is postive. You find yourself already caressing your stomach in hopes that your little one can feel you. The next nine months are going to be an exciting time for you and your baby. You are going to have a human life grow inside of you and feel them move as they get bigger. Your baby is going to go from a single sperm and egg into pounds of adorable flesh that you can't help but kiss over and over again. It truly is a miracle.

In order to help this miracle along, it is essential for you to eat as good as you can through out most of your pregnancy. The first three months might be a little difficult to eat balanced meals when you are dealing with food aversions and morning sickness. If you are one of the rare lucky ones whose stomach doesn't so much as move during your first trimester, then you can take full advantage of eating healthy right out of the gate.

Making sure you eat balanced nutritious meals is laying down the foundation for your baby. A diet of junk food is not going to help your baby with bone development and organ formation. Potato chips will not help with brain development. Your baby and your body need calcium and vitamins to achieve all of this.

Eating well during pregnancy is going to help your baby eat well after it is born and on solid foods. As your pregnancy progresses, some of what you eat will cross the placenta and the taste will be in your baby's amniotic fluid. Babies swallow this fluid and their taste buds are so develop that even in the womb they are able to taste the flavors. Doctors believe that babies who are exposed to a wide variety of fruit and vegetables while in utero have less of a chance of being a fussy eater later in life. They believe that these are the babies who will eat their fruit and vegetables without putting up any fight.

Doctors also believe that moms who drink their milk through out their pregnancy have an easier time weaning their babies from formula or breast milk to regular milk. This however is only one benefit, the other benefit of drinking milk throughout your pregnancy is all the calcium you will be giving your baby's bones. Many doctors recommend that you drink at least one eight oz glass of milk, usually fat free a day. Calcium is a must have your baby's bones and his teeth, even though you won't see his teeth for at least a few months.

This isn't to say that you have to stay away from all sweets all the time. You can indulge every now and then and thanks to cravings you may find yourself wanting sweets more often than not. You do have to keep it in moderation. Being pregnant should not be looked at as an excuse to eat whatever you want for nine months. Both you and your baby could pay a dear price.

Teaching Hearing Impaired Children at the Nonverbal Level

Teaching language to nonverbal, hearing-impaired children is in fact, a very controversial matter. The controversy stems from the idea that either of two goals is being targeted. One of which states that after language is learned, the child will be able to communicate orally; while the other states that the child will be able to communicate, not verbally, but manually.

Issues With This Approach

Although you may think that the best end goal would be a speaking child, some adult deaf groups would fiercely disagree. They believe that a hearing-impaired individual does not have to be verbal if only to be able to communicate with the rest of the population. For them, assimilation is not really a dream.

Although they aim to find some common grounds for communication, these groups do not really think it is necessary to learn spoken language just to take on the cultural traits of the verbal people.

And in respect to this claim, you have to understand that in some instances, language should be thought in completely nonverbal ways. The following are some of the means to facilitate language learning in nonverbal children.

British Sign Language (BSL)

This is a visual communication technique that incorporates the national or regional signs in Britain in a specified structure and is often taken as a language in its own. This kind of communication does not have a written form.

Manual English

This refers to all the communication systems that require signs, fingerspelling or gestures, which can appear separately or in combinations. This system keeps the word order and the correct syntactic form of the English language.

Signed English

This is the two-handed fingerspelling of the English language as based on British regional and national signs.

Fingerspelling

This is where the fingers of the hand assume 26 different positions. These 26 positions symbolize the 26 letters of the English alphabet. The combinations of these positions enable the formation of words or sentences.

Cued Speech

This is a one-handed supplement to lip-reading and is often used to clarify the nebulous phonemes that have been detected through lip-reading.

Paget Gorman Systematic Sign Language

This is a system devised by Sir Richard Paget and is used to give a grammatical representation of the spoken English language. It utilizes constructed signs and hand positions that differ form those used in the Britain Sign Language.

Signs Supporting English

This is composed of signs for keywords that would assist oral communication and used at appropriate times during utterances.

Auditory-Verbal Therapy

On the other hand, an even bigger number of people believe that language should be taught to nonverbal individuals so that they might actually be able to produce their own utterances. One of the most noteworthy methods in developing spoken language in nonverbal children is through the Auditory-Verbal Therapy.

The primary goal of the Auditory-Verbal Therapy is to maximize the child's residual hearing so that audition might be fully integrated to his/her personality and that he/she may be able to participate in the hearing society. Another goal would be to make mainstreaming a reasonable option in the future. Thus, suggesting that the child is as capable as any hearing child in a normal educational environment.

The general premise of the Auditory-Verbal Therapy is to focus on the Auditory Approach where the hearing-impaired child would be given instructions to listen and not to lip-read or sign. This way, the child would be capitalizing on his residual hearing and it would be easy for him to learn auditory skills since he would not be relying on signed speech.

The Link between Scoliosis and Mood Swings

Scoliosis may not be a life-threatening condition, but it is seriously debilitating, enough in some cases to make people suffer from dangerous mood swings.

What is Scoliosis?
Scoliosis is an abnormal back condition in which the spine suffers from an additional curve. Girls are twice as much likely than boys to suffer from scoliosis. This condition is also hereditary and occurs more commonly with those age 10 years old and above.

Types of Scoliosis
Doctors still haven't determined all possible causes of scoliosis. They did, however, have taken to classifying the various types of scoliosis as it has proven to be of great help in choosing the ideal treatment for this condition.

Idiopathic Scoliosis
The cause is still undetermined for this type of scoliosis. Infantile idiopathic scoliosis affect those below three years of age while adolescent idiopathic scoliosis affect those over 10 years old. Juvenile idiopathic scoliosis, on the other hand, affect those between 3 to 10 years old.

Functional Scoliosis
This condition is a result of another physical deformity such as back muscle spasms or simply having a shorter leg. With functional scoliosis, the spine is originally normal but an additional curve develops due to the deformity.

Neuromuscular Scoliosis
In this type of scoliosis, the problem lies in the bones of your spine. It is one of the more sever kinds of scoliosis and the additional curve may or may not be inborn.

Degenerative Scoliosis
This affects adults and additional curves that cause a person to suffer from scoliosis is a result of another medical condition like arthritis.

Signs and Symptoms of Scoliosis
Here are several ways for you to know early on if you are suffering from scoliosis.

Physical Deformities
Whether inherent or not, physical deformities can indeed develop into scoliosis. One thing to watch out for is uneven lengths and distances. Shoulders, waists, and hips that are uneven or shorter than the other can all lead to scoliosis.

Fatigue
Indeed, fatigue can also lead to scoliosis albeit indirectly. Fatigue can lead to stress and this can lead to poor posture and sleeping habits as well as mood swings. Ultimately, it can deteriorate until you find out you're suffering from scoliosis.

Complications
When you have scoliosis and you have no treatment or medication for your condition, several complications could arise.

Lung and Heart Damage
In worse cases, the abnormalities in your spine could lead to further physical abnormalities. Scoliosis, for instance, could cause your rib cage to press more closely against your heart and lungs, which then makes breathing more difficult. If worse comes to worst, it might be close enough to inflict actual damage.

Back Problems
Naturally, spinal abnormalities will cause back problems. If your condition doesn't improve, you could the mere act of leaning your back or lying down a difficulty.

Poor Social Image
Scoliosis is not pretty. If the abnormal curves are exaggerated, you'll be forced to walk with a hunched back and this could make you less confident of making new friends and developing relationships.

Scoliosis and Mood Swings
Scoliosis is not a pleasant condition to have. Your spine, after all, affects every movement you do and any abnormality will be reflected on how you move. Without proper therapy and treatment, coping with your condition could be a problem and you could suffer from mood swings because of it.

Kitchen Remodeling Ideas and Floors

It is easy to be excited when shopping for kitchen flooring after we have gone through hundreds of home interior design magazines but it is not advisable to choose a material based on looks alone. Narrow the choices to a few of your favorites and then take a trip to a flooring store or home center for a test drive.

We do most activity in the kitchen while we are standing so it is smart to look for something that is easy on the legs. While shopping take your shoes off and stand on the floor in your stocking feet and see how it feels. Is the floor comfortable or too hard under your feet? Put your shoes back on and go for a walk and see how the floor sounds on the noise level. Today's kitchens are more open than ever attaching to the den or even opening up to the great room. The noise from shoes can create problems while others are talking or watching TV. Remember too that the kitchen is typically the busiest spot in the house so you want a floor that wears well too. With the kids and the animals it doesn't take long to wear the floor down, not to mention all the foot traffic and spills. Durability is important in today's full families and ease of maintenance should be taken into consideration too.

These are different floorings to be considered:

Wood fits a variety of decor styles and is warm underfoot, easy on the legs and is basically a quiet floor option. The maintenance and durability of a wood floor depend greatly on what species of wood is being used and how that wood is finished. One of the worries with wood is that it may be scratched, but wood floors can always be sanded and refinished.
For homeowners who want an exceptionally durable floor and requires little maintenance, laminate is a great option. Laminate is factory-finished and can be easily installed over an existing floor making installation a breeze. While laminate has its advantages, it lacks the warmth and character typically associated with natural wood and some may find it noisy.

Ceramic tile allows for a great deal of customization in terms of colors and patterns. Though tile is easy to clean with a damp mop, the surrounding grout can be difficult to maintain and keep clean. Ceramic tile can be very hard on the legs not to mention dropped dishes. It doesn't help with sound control in the kitchen and can be quite cold underfoot.
If you are on a tight budget than vinyl sheeting or peel and stick tiles are for you. Vinyl is easy to install and is available in an endless array of colors and patterns. One of the drawbacks to vinyl floors is that the edges can curl and peel.

Linoleum flooring is making a comeback due to its green appeal. Made from linseed oil, cork dust, wood flour, tree resins, ground limestone and pigments, this kitchen flooring is environmentally friendly. There are other green options that are environmentally friendly but of course there are advantages and disadvantages to each type of flooring. The key is to go with your own kitchen flooring ideas and in the long run your floor will reflect your taste and fit with your lifestyle.

Loving Life Again After a Loss

When somebody loses a person who is important for them, they undergo grieving. Grieving helps the person to accept and understand their loss. It also helps them to accept or come to terms with the loss of the loved one. After a period of grief, it is then that they would be able to step forward and start living and loving life again.

When a death takes place, even if it is expected especially coming from a long illness, you may still experience a wide range of emotions. There can be denial, disbelief, confusion, shock, sadness, yearning, anger, humiliation, despair even guilt. Feeling these emotions are pretty normal, and even healthy.

It takes time for a person to fully grasp the concept that their loved one is no longer around. There are times when intense feelings of missing that person happen. But the pain eases after time and allows the person left behind to move on with their lives.

When in grief, there are people who report to experience physical symptoms like stomach pain, loss of appetite, intestinal upsets, sleep disturbances and loss of energy are all common symptoms of acute grief. There may even be extreme reaction like anxiety attacks, chronic fatigue, depressions and thoughts of suicide.

To cope with the pain and loss, getting support from people who acknowledge and understand the loss, and who have experienced the pain of separation will help you to adapt to a new life.

To cope with the loss, here are some things that can be done:

Give permission to yourself to acknowledge and feel the pain
Be patient with the process and avoid putting pressure to yourself in order to meet certain expectations.
Express the feelings. Crying are both necessary and part of the healing process.
Get support. There are people that you can talk to about your loss and memories.
Take care of yourself. Eat well and exercise. Physical activities release tension.
Avoid overindulgence in alcohol. Alcohol will make things and your feelings worse in the long run.
Forgive yourself for all the things you said or didn't say
Accept that life is for the living
Postpone major life changes like moving to a new house, changing jobs or having another child.

Death or loss arouses some feelings that are deeply overwhelming. A death of a child may awake feelings of injustice, frustration over lost potential, lost dreams and senseless suffering. Some parents feel they are responsible. Meanwhile, for a spouse's death, aside from the shock, it may also be the cause of a potential financial crisis, especially if the spouse is the main provider.

Elderly people losing a spouse are very vulnerable, for these cases they feel that they are losing a lifetime of shared experiences. A loss due to suicide can be among the most difficult loss to face and bear. Survivors are burdened by guilt, anger and shame.

Children who have experience loss may react differently than adults. Parent's death is very difficult for small children. Their inability to express their feelings and limited understanding put children in a very difficult situation, they revert to earlier behaviors like bet-wetting, asking insensitive questions about the deceased, invent games about dying and pretending that nobody died.

Shouting or harsh criticism directed to the child only deepens the child's anxiety and sense of insecurity and instability. It is important to talk to children honestly.

Surviving loss and grief can be done with support, patience and effort. Some day the pain would pass, and you can gull get back to the memories of your loved ones and loving life would come with ease.
